Commissioning at Zoellner Arts Center
In its first decade Zoellner has become a major contributor to the standard of living and cultural environment of the Lehigh Valley. Zoellner is not just a beautiful building and state-of-the-art performing arts facility; the living heart of Zoellner is a talented and passionate team of academic faculty and staff: educators, administrators and artists. These amazing faculty and staff are Zoellner’s greatest strength, and in our 10th season we began thinking about the welcome challenge of building on that strength to enhance Zoellner’s goals and mission.
The commissioning of new artistic work was seen as an excellent way to continue Zoellner’s cultural dialogue with, and contributions to, Lehigh University and the Lehigh Valley. New works of art commissioned by Zoellner Arts Center have the potential to make a significant and viable contribution to the regional and national artistic scene. New commissions may involve Lehigh University faculty and staff, guest artists creating work for Lehigh University ensembles, or outside artists creating work that will premier in the Zoellner Guest Artist Series.
Commissioning may not happen every year, but we hope it will occur on a consistent basis, and we are confident that over time patrons and supporters of Zoellner will look on these new artistic works with the same feelings of pride as the greatest athletic and engineering achievements of Lehigh University.
